FAQ

All questions

Is Pulse Tracker a free heart rate monitor app?

Yes. Pulse Tracker is free to download and you can measure your heart rate with the camera at no cost. An optional Premium subscription unlocks HRV, stress and energy analysis, unlimited history, blood pressure insights and the AI health assistant. You can try Premium free for 3 days and cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.

How does the iPhone camera measure heart rate?

The app uses photoplethysmography (PPG), the same optical principle used by pulse oximeters and smartwatches. You cover the rear camera and flash with your fingertip. Each heartbeat changes the amount of light passing through your skin, and the app turns those tiny brightness changes into a pulse wave, then counts the beats per minute.

Can an app really measure blood pressure?

No phone app can measure blood pressure the way a cuff does, and we are upfront about that. Pulse Tracker lets you log readings from your home blood pressure monitor, classifies them against standard categories, charts your trends and reminds you to measure. After calibrating with a cuff, the app can also show an estimate derived from your pulse wave, clearly labeled as an estimate. For any medical decision, use a validated cuff.

Do I need an Apple Watch or any wearable?

No. Everything in the app works with the iPhone alone. If you do own an Apple Watch, you can sync your measurements with Apple Health so everything lives in one place.

Is my health data private?

Your measurements are stored on your device. If you turn on Apple Health sync, data moves through Apple's encrypted HealthKit framework. We do not sell health data. See the privacy policy for details.

Which iPhones are supported?

Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The app also runs on iPad and Apple Vision Pro. It is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Swedish.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Pulse Tracker and tap Cancel. You keep Premium until the end of the current period. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I add the widget to my Home Screen?

Long-press an empty area of your Home Screen until apps jiggle, tap the plus button, search for Pulse Tracker, pick a size and tap Add Widget.

How do I set a measurement reminder?

Go to the Profile tab, tap Reminders and add a daily or custom reminder. Measuring at the same time each day gives the cleanest trends.

How accurate are the measurements?

Resting heart rate from fingertip PPG agrees closely with pulse oximeters when you keep still. HRV is reliable at rest but sensitive to movement. Blood pressure estimates are approximations that require cuff calibration and are labeled as estimates. The app shows a Measurement Quality score so you know when to repeat a reading.

Does it work on Apple Watch?

There is no watch app, but the iPhone app syncs with Apple Health, so your Apple Watch heart rate data and your Pulse Tracker measurements live together.

Is Pulse Tracker available on Android?

Not at the moment. Pulse Tracker is available for iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro.
